“An extraordinary life is about daily, continuous improvements in the areas that matter most.” Robin Sharma
In the summer of 2015, I was personally and spiritually drained. I was just plain tired of where I was and tired of not feeling fulfilled in life. It’s one thing to enjoy what you do, but entirely different to feel the accomplishment of being a part of something bigger than yourself. I knew I needed to do something different but I didn’t know what exactly to do.
One day during work, a co-worker came into my office and we started talking about personal change. So she began sharing what she was doing and shared the secret of her new journey. She began to personally invest in herself and spoke about how she was taking massive action. I was instantly drawn to what she was telling me because I knew that this is what I needed to do for myself. Then she shared with me a little about the book she was reading called, The Miracle Morning. She shared some insights about the author and what the book is about, then she said, “You know our day usually begins when we get to work and that is what defines the rest of our day.” Well, The Miracle Morning suggests that we do something radically different if we want the type of success we truly desire. Lets be honest with ourselves, if we all want lasting success we need to break the cycle of what we do day in and day out if we want to see true and lasting change within ourselves. In the book, Hal Elrod expounds on his findings that most successful people begin their day early in the morning. So he begins to lays out simple new habits that a person can take when they begin The Miracle Morning routine. Here there are.
Simple Morning Habits
- Sit in silence for a few minutes
- Write down some affirmations and begin to proclaim them over your life
- Visualization; Begin to see where you want to be in life
- Exercise for a few minutes
- Read a non-fiction book
- Scribing or writing down your thoughts down on paper
This instantly grabbed my attention!!! Deep down inside I knew this path would edify and encourage the deep desire in me to be successful in life and break away from the monotony of what I was doing everyday. When I came home that day, I told my wife and she wanted to participate as well. The next morning, I woke up at 5:30 AM and remembered a book that I had started months ago but had never finished and that was Joseph Prince’s book, Destined to Reign. First, I sat in silence for 5 minutes. No phone, no TV, just silence. After my timer went off, I did some squats, push-ups, jumping-jacks and dedicated a short time to jogging in place. After my short workout, I poured my coffee and finished a chapter in my book. It felt great because I had accomplished something small and I was proud of myself. Then I began to write out my “I Am’s”. I began writing out, “I am a great father, I am a great husband, I am wealthy, I am a businessman, I will succeed, and so forth. After I wrote out my affirmations down, I got up from my chair and began to declare them over myself and my future. Shortly after I was done, I grabbed my Bible and read a little in the book of Mark. After this Bible study, I looked at the time and it was only 6:30 AM. I had done all of this activity before 7:00 AM. I was quite proud of what I had accomplished. I had never done anything like that before and was happy that I did. I’m glad that my friend told me what she was doing because it woke something up inside of me; a passion and desire to do something different than I had been doing up to this point; to change a habit. These small steps have since had such a huge impact on me personally and I know without a shadow of a doubt that the average person out there is missing out.
Simply applying steps and routines like these can help launch anyone into their divine destiny whatever that may be. I encourage you, if you are looking for something to help waken the sleeping giant within you, try this for a week. Try waking up at 5:00 AM for 5 days and begin to sit in silence, do a small workout, read a non-fiction book or just finish that book that you haven’t completed yet, and begin writing down a dream or vision that you’ve always wanted to accomplish.
Try it out and tell me what you think.
