What is self-confidence and why is it needed for you to have success in life? I am not talking about being cocky, I am talking about BELIEVING IN YOURSELF, that you can do great things. Not just in creating wealth but for your own personal success, whether it is your health, relationships, or personal development. I believe that we are all destined to do great things.
What kind of person do you want to be? Find people that can be your heroes! Personally, my heroes are Jesus Christ, my father, my mother, my brother Jonathan, King David (of the Bible), Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John D Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, JP Morgan, and Senior Chief Jonathan Reed whom I had the pleasure of serving under during my time in the Navy. Knowing these people on a personal level or reading their biographies and studying their lives inspires me. I fill my mind with the inspiration that I get from learning about and/or watching these people’s lives.
What do you believe that you are worth? If you fill your mind with fear, poverty and unbelief you are already doomed to fail.
What you allow within your mind will eventually become your reality. Such as, what do you want to become, a businessman/businesswoman or just a mediocre employee? Which will you be? How badly do you wish to succeed in your life? You will need confidence. The kind of confidence that will propel you to your desired goal. So how do you build self-confidence? Personally, I have never had an issue with believing in myself since I became a believer in Jesus Christ. When I was a small boy, I didn’t have much confidence in myself but I didn’t wallow in self-pity either. I just didn’t know if I could do great things. It is one thing to listen to someone tell you that you can do great things and not take it to heart. However, it is another to hear and to let that spoken word take root deep within yourself; to begin to believe in that word. Follow me for a minute, some of us need a mentor and some of us don’t. We all need that one person who will speak life into us when we are down and even when we succeed. But until you find your mentor, you need to build your self-confidence. I can tell you honestly what I do. I will begin to write down what I want to be. I begin by stating my “I AM’s” on paper. What is an “
? I read Joel Osteen’s latest book The Power of I AM
in about 2 weeks and I enjoyed it deeply. In the book, Joel Osteen states, “Whatever follows the “I am” will eventually find you.
” This is very true for anyone, even if you are not a believer in Jesus Christ. If you walk around and say “I am poor and I will always be because I am uneducated.” then you will become or continue to be what you speak. When I wake early in the morning, I will sit in silence for 5 minutes, read some out of a book, and then write down my affirmations, for example, “I am a great husband, I am a great father, I am wealthy, I am a successful businessman, I am talented, I am qualified, I am getting out of debt, The right people are coming towards me, God is working behind the scenes, I am blessed, I am healthy, I am disciplined, I am righteous, I am prosperous.
” I will write these things down first, then I will stand up and begin to declare them with my mouth. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue has the poweroflifeanddeath
.” So what you speak will become your reality. Speak life in yourself!
If no one else does, then YOU declare your future! Come on! I have a dry erase board in my room and I will begin writing down personal goals and things that I want to see come to pass. I will write things like, “Goals: Save $1000, Create a business or get a second job, write 1 blog post per night, etc.” I strongly encourage you to write down your goals and begin to declare the goodness of God over your life.
What we are doing here is getting the negative influences out of our minds and bringing hope to the forefront of our lives. Napoleon Hill states, “Resolve to throw off the influences of any unfortunate environment you may have grown up in or now find yourself living in, and build your own life to ORDER. Taking inventory of mental assists and abilities, you will discover that your greatest weakness is lack of self-confidence. This handicap can be surmounted, and timidity translated into courage, through the aid of the principle of autosuggestion. The application of this principle may be made through a simple arrangement of positive thought impulses stated in writing, memorized, and repeated until they become a part of the working equipment of your subconscious mind.”
Know this, you have seeds of greatness within you. And if you will discover how to water those seeds, they will grow and you will become what you were called to be.
