Changing your Habits: The Obvious Step to Success. Wake up Early!

March 3, 2016

“Always remember that where you are is a result of who you were, but where you go depends entirely on who you choose to be, from this moment on.” Hal Elrod.

Before anyone can venture into something that requires greater responsibility, you must change your habits. Why? Because what has been working for you up to this point has not been working. It doesn’t really matter what it is, whether it is to have great financial provision, losing weight, or climbing the corporate ladder, you will have to change your ways. Why? Because what you have been doing is not going to work when you take on bigger responsibilities.

For example, bad spending habits will not allow you to keep wealth once you acquire it or sleeping in will not make your day better because it will cause you to rush through the day. Before going further, people who want and desire change need to change their habits. The habits that you do now will decide the direction that you go. If your habits are bad, such as bad spending, then you will end up in debt and flat broke. You will always lack financial provision for emergencies and so on. So let’s change your habits. In this post, I want to share a habit that most people are not willing to do because it is not an exciting habit.

In the summer of 2015, I asked myself a real honest question. “What do the wealthy do? What are their habits? What do they do that I don’t do?” This caused me to search out the answers to my questions. I had taken this question seriously because if I didn’t I would still be doing the same thing that I have been doing all these years. It’s hard to break habits that you have been doing all your life. One habit that I have noticed with the rich or the wealthy is that they are awake between 4:00 am and 5:00 am. So why so early? There is a really good reason why you should wake up early and break the bad habit of sleeping in. It doesn’t do you any good to waste your time laying there in your bed until its time to rush out. Besides your back will hurt. For many of us who have a family, it is hard to find time for yourself. It is hard for you to have some honest quiet time and gather yourself before the kids and your spouse wake up. So waking up early can be the key that can transform your entire day. For those who are on the path to success, whatever it is, you need to do something dramatically different. Waking up early maybe what you need.

Waking up around 4:30 am is honestly hard sometimes even for me but I’m taking it one day at a time. There are days I do it and some days where I wake up around 5:15 or 5:30 am. The only thing that will get you out of your bed is your desire and determination for real change. So ask yourself “How bad do I really desire change?" If you desire it so bad then you need to fuel that desire with pure and honest motives. What is it that you are trying to accomplish in life? Did you have a business that you want to grow? Are you trying to improve yourself? What is it that you are wanting in life? One of the many reasons why I personally wake up in the morning is because it seems that I have no time to myself when I get home from work. We pick up the kids from school, we have to make dinner, give the kids a bath, brush their teeth and put them into bed. And that just wears me out and I feel like doing nothing by 8:00 pm. So having an hour and a half in the morning allows me to concentrate on reading my Bible, reading one of my books, preparing a blog post and so on. It allows me to plan out my day and I’m more focused even at work.

A book that I recommend for understanding why you need to wake up early is The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. The Miracle Morning is a book that takes you on personal journey of someone searching for real change in life. Hal Elrod takes you on a roller coaster ride of success to tragedy and back up to success. But how he did it will encourage you to get up early and pursue whatever it is that you are trying to improve.

So why wake up early? Waking up early means investing in yourself. Waking up early means less distractions and focusing on you. When you wake up early in the morning you will set the mood for the rest of your day. Unlike the horrible feeling of rushing to work or where ever you are going to because you woke up late and then your whole day feels ugly. The quiet time in the early morning will allow you to focus on you and what you need to accomplish. You will be surprised as to how much you will get done when you wake up early. You can finally read that book that has been sitting on your dresser for the past month. Your mind will be more clear for prayer or writing down your affirmations. If you will practice this slowly and make it a habit, you will see that your outlook on the rest of the day will change. My advice is to start by waking up 30 minutes before you wake up now. Then gradually wake up earlier. You will see a difference.

I hope this post has inspired you to begin your journey to success whatever that may be.
