What comes to your mind when you hear the word legacy? Does it mean anything to you at all or do you even care? What kind of Legacy will you leave behind? At some point in our lives we will leave something behind that people will remember whether we have children, family or friends. And I am not just talking about possessions. I am talking about legacy. What you have done in your lifetime. I don’t know about you but I want to leave something behind so big that people will remember my name and what I have done. For me, personally it is about change. Change for myself and my family tree. If you have kids, what do you want them to remember you by? For many people that live today, we have only accomplished a little. I believe that we were all created to accomplish great things. What is it for you? I don’t know. But for me, I want to be remember as someone who went for his dreams. Someone that didn’t have a “Give Up” mentality. Someone who seized opportunties or someone who made things happen.
It was about a year ago that I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill that changed my life. I began to seek and cry out in prayer to God Almighty that I want to accomplish my dreams. Now, we all have dreams. There is not one person that I know that dreams about being poor and living paycheck to paycheck. When I was a little boy I wanted a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. I wanted to build buildings and travel the world. When I was a teenager I wanted to be a metal band like Pantera and make music and play in front of thousands of people. Now I am 34 years old and I want to be a millionaire who gives back to society and helps others in need. One thing is for sure, our dreams change as we get older but another thing I want to point out is that our dreams never get small. For some people, they have given up on their dreams and then they die never accomplishing a single thing in life.
I can’t answer why many people give up but I can say this that even though others have given up, millions of other people have not. There are people right now who are working hard on what they really want in life and some day they will accomplish that dream. Some will start businesses that will change lives, some will invent something that will make life easier. Others will start charities that will touch lives all around the world. So what I am trying to say in this blog post is what do you want to do? Do you recall names like Thomas Jefferson. JP Morgan, John D Rockefeller, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates? Well if you do, then these people have impacted our lives today that their names are written down in history. All the names that we go over in history were just ordinary people who have extraordinary mindsets. They saw an opportunity to change something and they did. Sadly, many people today run from opportunties because of fear, rejection, lack of direction and so on.
So why this post on legacy? Because I want you and the rest of the world to know that you can impact people’s live where ever you are. That is not something that is over exaggerated. I truly believe that. Each and everyone of us can live out our dreams and live up to the potential that we were created to be in this life. After all you only have one. When I think about legacy, I think about my family and my children. The reason why I think about them first is because as a husband and parent I am the most influential person in their lives right now. I have the ability to inspire, motivate and educate them. I want to inspire my sons and my daughter to not be afraid of failure and to go after their dreams just as I am. I have a dry erase board in my room and at the top of the board I have written “TO PURSUE SUCCESS IS TO PURSUE A FUTURE GENERATION FROM THE BONDAGE OF POVERTY, DEBT AND LIVING AN UNFULFILLED LIFE”. So what does that mean? Exactly what it says. I am pursing a successful path because I want my kids and those around me to see that I am taking massive action and in doing so I am going to leave a mark on them and you should too.
So what kind of legacy will you leave behind?
